The Rybnik power plant is a Polish coal-fired power plant . It was built 4 km north of Rybnik in the 1970s and has an electrical output of 1776 megawatts . The Rybnik power plant has eight blocks , four of which have a 120-meter-high cooling tower . The two chimneys of the Rybnik power plant are 260 and 300 meters high and are among the highest in Poland.
history
In 1966 a power plant construction project was approved. It was created based on work done two years earlier by surveyors from Katowice Geodesy Enterprise.
At a meeting organized in October 1967, the residents were officially informed about the construction of the power plant. The planned completion date should be 1980.
When the power plant was built, it was assumed that the blocks were cooled by cooling towers and an artificial water reservoir, which is why the scope of work was very large. As early as 1968, the construction of an artificial lake on the Ruda River, now known as the Rybnik Lagoon, was one of the city's figureheads.
The first block of the Rybnik plant went into operation on December 31, 1972. This is the date that we consider to be the beginning of the Rybnik power plant.
In the next 13 months, three more units were put into operation. In 1978 they started producing the so-called second-stage blocks, that is, blocks from 5 to 8.
With the construction of the power plant, the entire infrastructure necessary for its operation grew. In 1973 a new road was put into operation that connects Orzepowice with the power station. Then the first three blocks of a housing estate were built in the factory, which were gradually expanded to their present size.
New bridges and a shopping pavilion were also built, and the entire Rybnicka Kuźnia district had paved roads and a bus route by the end of 1977.
In its history the plant changed its name many times - it was a state enterprise ("Southern Energy District", then the "Rybnik" power plant in Wielopole) and a state-owned one-person company Elektrownia "Rybnik" SA Plant sold to a consortium of EDF and EnBW as part of the privatization process in order to become a state-owned company again in 2017, which is part of the PGE Capital Group.
Power plant units
The power plant consists of a total of 8 units that went into operation from 1979 to 1983. The following table gives an overview:
