Krahter -

Krahter is a joint EP by the German rapper Degenhardt and the hip-hop duo Kamikazes . It was released on August 12, 2016 on the Vinyl Digital label .

background

In 2014 the two Kamikazes brothers recorded the track Last Lover for Degenhardt's album Harmonie Hurensohn 3 . The hip-hop musicians met each other for the first time during the video implementation. At a later meeting they decided to release a joint EP. To do this, they directly selected a number of productions and defined song concepts. According to the antagonist, the EP should be structured “ according to predetermined breaking points in a prototypical biography ”. Two " instrumental tracks that reflect birth and death " frame Krahter . In between there are songs about her birth, the “ identity finding ” in names and with Berge a contribution “ on which life [...] is finished ”. Due to the spatial distance between Degenhardt and Kamikazes and other projects that the three artists had in the meantime, the actual recordings for Krahter took about two years. The EP was finally released on August 12, 2016. In addition to the option to download it for a fee, it was also released on vinyl in a limited edition of 500 copies .

criticism

Degenhardt and Kamikazes (2016)

The e-zine Laut.de rated Krahter with four out of five possible points. In the opinion of the editor Dani Fromm, Degenhardt and the Kamikazes “ are still flying much further below the radar than they deserve. “Although the antagonist and the myth“ appear to be superior in terms of rap technique in a direct comparison ”, it still“ does not matter who contributed which part to a thoroughly coherent whole ”. The productions of the Kamikazes received special praise. In this way, “ Samples and drifting sounds […] develop [a] captivating, oppressive dynamic in spite of the consistently slowed pace. "At the latest with the song Jabberwocky ," the ghostly wobbly, difficult to grasp sounds sent [the listener] on an acoustic mushroom trip. " Draws will Fromm as" About Track "is highlighted, in addition to" women and Emos all other tap [should] who seek in the arms of the last Lover for comfort and relief. "

In the hip-hop magazine Juice , Krahter received a rating of four out of six possible “crowns”. According to editor Dominik Lippe, Degenhardt and the Kamikazes would like to be heardas a poetically nested alternative ”. In their “ melancholy to deeply sad productions ”, the rappers resemble the “ solo excursions by Grim104 , without adopting the textual claim of socio-political analysis as their own. " Krahter treats rather the" complex themes of emotion and poetry, transience and belief. “The texts by Degenhardt and Kamikazes offer a“ wide scope for interpretation, with which [...] the ambiguity of language in general and of poetry in particular ”is made clear. Furthermore, “ religious metaphors keep cropping up. "In Muttis Jesus , the trio stage " their own birth as a divine event, only to immediately follow this self-exaggeration with the pessimistic suspicion that their career will not end well ". According to Lippe, the “ atmospheric musical background ” of the kamikazes harmonizes “ surprisingly well with the religious symbols. "

In a vote by Backspin Hip Hop magazine , Krahter was rated 7.6 out of 10 points. The EP could convince with its “ gloomy atmosphere and the strong productions ”, but “ because of the central mood and the difficult to access lyrics, it is not suitable for every situation. "From the point of view of the editor Yannick H., the entire work turned out to be a bit too cerebral despite the" very high level [s] "of the texts . "To the editor Diana, the texts" often seem like everyday streams of consciousness on a wide variety of topics such as 'conscience', 'fear', 'guest toilet' and 'serious facial expressions' and often confused. “Yannick W. particularly praises the productions of the Kamikazes. So " the clattering and gloomy instrumentals " really suck up the listener.
