The poisoner's manual -

The Handbook of the Poison Mixer is the sixth solo album by the German rapper Destroy Degenhardt . It was released on November 3, 2017 on the Audiolith label . After a series of publications under the pseudonyms Disko Degenhardt and Degenhardt , the man from Düsseldorf renamed himself Destroy Degenhardt for the album .

background

After Degenhardt had released the EP Krahter with the Kamikazes in the summer of 2016 , the music video Stadt mit Gossenboss mit Zett was released on November 22, 2016 . With this he then completed the "100 kilos son of a bitch" tour. In the course of the following recordings of Das Handbuch des Poisonmischers , the rapper renamed himself Destroy Degenhardt , which, according to his own statement, conceals “ no deeper meaning ”. As he explained to Rappers.in, the intention behind his music has changed compared to previous albums: “ So far it has always been the case that I've always been just a small, honest emo who wants to be loved, who thinks it's cool who wants to be told that he's horny. Because I'm a fanboy, I always wanted someone to say about me that I am as mega-cool as I think others are mega-cool. […] But since I have noticed in the change with the album that it would be ideal that it might help someone. I would be most happy if someone who feels bad or good can make a movie out of it. A really nice movie, just like me. That would be my artistic goal. "

reception

criticism

The Poison Mixer's Handbook received positive reviews from both music websites and the hip-hop media outlets. Linus Volkmann rated the album with four and a half out of a possible six points for the Musikexpress . Degenhardt's " own narcissism, its own brokenness and crassness " function as a " superordinate narrative to dark beats. "Noticeably," self-harm instead of self- invention "pulls through the publication. With Degenhardt, the “ politically very committed Hamburg label Audiolith ” signed its first real “ street rapper and storyteller ”. According to Sebastian Jegorow from the intro , Degenhardt presents himself “ as vital and purposeful as seldom before. "So far, the rapper has reminded " with the numerous film references and clever texts of a dirty kid version of Torch or Pahel ". But instead of the “ idealistic distribution channels ” he now has “ a strong label behind his back with Audiolith” . “Nevertheless , with his egocentric chains of associations, which, in keeping with the cover of the record, are reminiscent of hidden objects, he does not stray too far from dark topics such as addiction, satiety and misanthropy. “The e-zine laut.de awarded four out of a possible five points to Destroy Degenhardt's album. From the point of view of the editor Anastasia Hartleib, the publication follows “ a man with a balaclava who takes off to destroy himself. “Already in the introductory Dr. Schlingensiefsynthetic spheres of thunder rumble over his head, bass and guitar lightning flash across the cloud-covered sky without illuminating the area. "Based on this, the rapper is" on his disastrous path to the 'end' "

Florian Peking reviewed The Poison Mixer's Handbook for MZEE . The listener should n't be fooled by the cover that looks like a “ children's book ”. Degenhardt's album sounds " just as renegade as one is used to from the mask wearer ". The man from Düsseldorf spells out " in graphic language [...] his uncompromising anti-attitude and [relentlessly] reveals his inner being. “This results in a“ difficult-to-access panorama between a cry for help and a hate manifesto ”, which“ is atmospheric [interwoven] with instrumentals, which mostly come from Hiro MA. “In summary, the“ gloomy sound image and Destroy Degenhardt's emphatic lyrics […] create a suction in the middle of the darkness. Backspin Hip Hop Magazine also praised the publication as being coherent. “ While the German rap scene represents a masquerade in many respects, ” the “ artist only wears his mask physically. “Through the honesty of the music, the listener actually learns everything that one should know about Audiolith signing. “His art functions as a“ processing process. “The website Rappers.in rated the album with five and a half out of a possible six points. The Poison Mixer's Handbook breaks through the “ listening habits of classic rap fans time and again through idiosyncratic song structures, unconventional rhyme schemes, sometimes even the abandonment of a rhyme and the sample selection that takes getting used to. “Through“ crackling beat elements, acoustic outliers and sometimes uncomfortable raising of the voice ”the listener is“ repeatedly pulled out of the semicomatous state ”. From the " gently rippling, slightly psychedelic-looking" One Night for Nobody " " to the " classic hip-hop beat on" The Night of the Long Knives " " to the " electronically distorted and powerful bass [n] Beat structure from 'Think about Mutation' and 'Street Techno' ”convince every instrumental. Degenhardt creates the “ greatest goosebumps moments when the addict, mentally unstable, people- hating social outsider rather subliminally describes how he recognizes the beautiful in the little things in life. "

Leaderboard

In the list of the best “Hip Hop Albums of the Year” 2017 by laut.de, the album was 10th. Destroy Degenhardt once again invited “ into the deceptive security of his mattress castle, from there to cast a self-destructively deep look into the pitch-black abyss . The handbook of the poisoner is really not recommended as reading for tender souls. “The rapper also placed himself in the list of the best videos of the year with the clip for One Night for Nobody, accurately staged in the most beautiful water-color look .
