Kraichgau Library Gochsheim
The Kraichgau Library Gochsheim is a special library that collects literature on the Kraichgau region in northwest Baden-Württemberg and makes it available to anyone interested. It is located in Graf-Eberstein-Schloss in the Gochsheim district of the city of Kraichtal ( Karlsruhe district ). The library is supported by the Heimatverein Kraichgau .
history
In November 1984, the Kraichgau Heimatverein came up with the idea of centralizing the association's own literature holdings, which had grown due to parts of the private libraries of deceased members, and to make them accessible not only to the association members, but also to other interested parties - as a supplement to the literature offered by city libraries, university and state libraries. For this purpose, the city of Kraichtal gave the association two rooms on the upper floor of the Gochsheimer Schloss, which were set up as library rooms in 1985 and used to hold the association's books. The library was opened on March 22, 1986, and has been open for use several days a year since then. The library is mainly used by local historians, teachers, pupils, students and scientists who work on local or regional history topics. In 2001 the Heimatverein Kraichgau published the first volume of a regional bibliography on Kraichgau, which is based on the inventory of the library.
Stocks
The Kraichgau Library began when it opened on March 22, 1986 with a stock of around 1,500 volumes. A year later there were already over 2500 volumes, now (as of 2006) there are around 6000 volumes. Regular new acquisitions supplement the holdings.
The main focus of the inventory is the literature on Kraichgau and North Baden in general (including local chronicles, local family books and illustrated books), which is almost completely available, as well as the most important source books and fundamental supplementary works as well as other aids such as dictionaries and lists of abbreviations. The archive of the city of Kraichtal also left the Kraichgau-Bote , the oldest newspaper in the Bruchsal / Bretten / Eppingen area , to the library, which was published from 1848 to 1870 . On historical topics such as the peasant war , the Reformation , immigration and emigration, the revolution of 1848/49, etc. a. the library holdings offer cross-location presentations. Gray literature , i.e. small fonts that are not available in bookshops, for example from club anniversaries, forms a large part of the inventory. All volumes of the local history series of the Kraichgau homeland association are also available.
The library's holdings in the field of family research are less extensive . In addition to local clan books and family chronicles, there are also genealogical journals and aids such as the pocket book for family history research .
