from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The company Kramp & Comp. Graphische Kunstanstalt was one of the oldest flat printing works in Germany, based in Offenbach am Main . Kramp & Comp. produced high-quality art prints and is considered one of the first companies to successfully market lithographic products commercially. The company was founded in 1832, was created in 1999 in bankruptcy and was founded in 2000 by the Swiss Model Group adopted.

history

Louis Kramp, lithographer and founder of Kramp & Comp. Lithograph, around 1860

After the lithographic printing method of lithography stones by Alois Senefelder had invented the commercial significance of the process has been recognized for the reproduction of graphic products quickly. The company's founder , Louis Kramp , employed painters from 1832, who carried out extensive work to transfer graphics onto so-called litho stones. These could then be reproduced at will. It took eight to nine months for a handcrafted lithographer to implement a 60 × 80 cm drawing using the process engineering of the time.

From 1840 the company was called Kramp und Wagner , after the then co-owner Philip Wagner. Wagner was politically very active and was known in Offenbach am Main at the time as "the red Wagner". He had to leave the Grand Duchy of Hesse several times because of his political activities and for this reason ended his participation in the company.

In 1846, Louis Kramp erected the first company building on a field outside the city of Offenbach am Main that was still open at the time. The company property was acquired by Prince Wolfgang Ernst Ludwig von Isenburg . In 1847, Kramps employee Leopold Nickelsberg (1821–1903) became a partner in the company. From then on the company was called Kramp & Comp.

From the turn of the century, in 1900, labels for soap and perfume packaging, wine bottles, cigars and greeting cards were produced using the chromolithography process. During the First World War , cards were also produced for propaganda purposes.

After the Second World War , the company concentrated on the manufacture of packaging products for the national and international cosmetics industry. International patents also ensured that the company was able to play a leading role in the European packaging industry for perfumes and cosmetics until the 1980s.

With the increasing introduction of computer-aided processes, lithography, which was largely still operated manually, lost its importance. The insolvent company was taken over by the Swiss Model Group in 2000 and the headquarters moved from Offenbach to Hanau .

In 2000 the company began as a subsidiary of the Swiss Model Group in the former printing hall of the Illert label printing company, which went bankrupt around 1999. In the past, Kramp and Comp. already printed for Illert beer labels for Chinese beer. So it was an interesting coincidence to produce in the former halls and offices. The number of employees and the machine park had doubled by 2008, so that the premises have not offered enough space since then. The company therefore moved into a new production building in Hanau-Steinheim in 2011 .
