After high school degree at (today's) Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich in 1812 and studies of philosophy , law and cameralistics at the University of Vienna and the University of Landshut was Jordan after graduation in law and in philosophy and lecturer activity in Heidelberg 1821 Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Marburg appointed . There he officiated as rector in 1825/26 . In 1827 he was first in a Hessian appointed government committee reviewing the legislation. He contributed significantly to the drafting of the constitution of 1831 and thus to the creation of the Hessian Estates Assembly .

Soon afterwards, Jordan came into conflict with the state government because of his journalistic work, especially after he was first elected to the electorate's assembly of estates in 1830. In 1831/32 he was one of the determined liberals in the Kassel state parliament. In 1832 he was refused leave to exercise the mandate and from 1833 he was under police supervision. In 1839 he was for alleged involvement in the preparation of the Frankfurter guard tower in 1833 and other so-called revolutionary activities in the environment of Georg Buchner and Friedrich Ludwig Weidig in custody arrested and in 1843 to five years imprisonment convicted and on the Marburg Castle detained. In 1845 the Kassel Higher Appeal Court overturned this judgment and Jordan was released.

In 1848 Jordan was a Vice President of the Frankfurt Pre-Parliament and was appointed to the Committee of Seventeen . From July 18, 1848 to May 20, 1849 he was Heinrich Henkel's successor as a member of the Fritzlar district in the Frankfurt National Assembly . There he was one of the Württemberger Hof and Landsberg factions . At the same time he was a representative of the Electorate of Hesse in the provisional central authority as the Bundestag representative .

In 1850 Jordan was a member of the Arbitration Court of the Erfurt Union Parliament and was subsequently retired.

Jordan was accepted into Freemasonry in 1819 "on the high seas" under the sponsorship of a Scottish grand master ; on September 9, 1820 he was accepted by the Freemason Lodge Socrates for steadfastness in Frankfurt am Main .

Private life

Jordan married Marie Staudinger († 1832) in Marburg in 1821, after whose death he married Pauline Wigand (1810–1885), the daughter of the archivist and legal historian Paul Wigand .
