building
The Kranich-Gymnasium consists of two buildings, including the Schölkebuilding for grades 5, 6 and 10. The main building is for grades 7 through 9 and grades 11 through 13. The two buildings consist of two gyms, playgrounds, an auditorium and the associated classrooms in the respective tracts and some specialist rooms.
history
The Kranich-Gymnasium has existed since August 5, 1943. The first full-time teacher was Erna Raithel with 37 students. On May 21, 1947, the school became an independent high school for the first time, because before that it was dependent on loans from, among others, the pupils' legal guardians. In 1950 and 1951 the first Abitur took place at the school. The classes' first ski run took place in 1955 and 1956.
The new construction of the art wing and the design of the grammar school as well as the first school newspaper were created between 1965 and 1968. Before the school split in 1967/68, it was in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt. Today the so-called Kranich-Gymnasium stands on this property. The second part of the school is located in Salzgitter-Fredenberg and is called GAF (Gymnasium am Fredenberg).
On April 4, 1968, the name Kranich-Gymnasium was based on Schiller's ballad Die Kraniche des Ibykus . In the 1981/82 school year, the school acquired its own microcomputer for the first time. Between 1986 and 1988 the school was renovated. In the same year the so-called Abistreich was introduced.
The first student exchanges began in 1990/91. To Poland or even to the USA. the students were sent to spend a year (or more / less) there. In 1992/93 the interior design of the grammar school began. In 2009 Anke Illgner became the headmistress of the Kranich-Gymnasium.
Educational offers
The Kranich-Gymnasium is an all-day school. There are plenty of opportunities to spend your break during lunch breaks. Study studios as well as leisure and homework support are available at all times. In addition, the students can order a warm lunch in the cafeteria. In addition, the Kranich-Gymnasium offers a variety of working groups. Work with the notebooks begins in grade 7. However, the parents of the students will be notified during the summer holidays to get a computer.
In addition to the first class trip in the 6th grade, the Kranich-Gymnasium also offers a ski trip and an addiction prevention trip in the 8th grade. In addition, the students regularly visit the theater in Braunschweig or theater performances in the school itself. This also includes the musical tour in 7th grade. Schoolchildren can take part in school events such as the summer festival or the Christmas concert. There is an exchange program for 10th grade students - the partner schools in Poland and the USA can be attended for half a year or a full year.
Trial days are offered for future students. There is also an open day for all cranes. The ambition of the cranes is increased, for example, through reading competitions such as Antolin or duels. The Kranich-Gymnasium offers the students elective courses - for example in the subject of computer science.

particularities
The Kranich-Gymnasium maintains its own school forest. The approximately 1 hectare site was leased by the city of Salzgitter from 2014. The school also has its own school choir. With the “Coexist” project, 24 high school graduates from the Kranich-Gymnasium set an example against xenophobia and racism. A “coexist installation” was installed on the highest point in Lower Saxony as a symbol for the Germany-wide initiative. The former podcast group of the Kranich-Gymnasium made video recordings underground in the disused iron ore mine Schacht Konrad . Based on this working group, there is a YouTube channel called “Podcast Kranich-Gymnasium Salzgitter”.
