Krastjo Kotew Krastew (also written Krastyo Kotev Krastew , Bulgarian Кръстьо Котев Кръстев ; born May 31, 1866 in Pirot , then Ottoman Empire , today Serbia ; †  April 15, 1919 in Sofia , Bulgaria ), known as Dr. Krastew (bulg. Д-р Кръстев) was a Bulgarian linguist , translator , philosopher , first Bulgarian literary critic of modern times and a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences . Krastew belonged to Pencho Slawejkow , Petko Todorow and Pejo Jaworow to the literary circle Misal (Bulgarian Мисъл - thought). Krastew is also the founder of the neo-Kantian movement in Bulgaria.

Life

Krastjo Krastew was born in 1866 in the city of Pirot, which at that time still belonged to the Ottoman Empire (now Serbia). His family were among the wealthiest and his father served on the board of the church. When his hometown was occupied by the Serbian army during the Russo-Ottoman War in 1878 , the Bulgarian institutions were closed and protests against the Serbian troops broke out among the Bulgarian population, his father and other members of his families were interned. After the Berlin Congress in 1878, Pirot was assigned to the now independent Principality of Serbia and Krastjo Krastev's family joined the wave of Bulgarians who left Pirot for Bulgaria. A Bulgarian minority still lives in the Pirot region and in south-east Serbia in general .

When he arrived in Sofia, Krastjo was enrolled in the First Sofia Boys' High School , where he gained solid knowledge and skills. A. got in the subjects of ancient Greek, French, German, Russian, shorthand .

In 1885 Krastew became a philosophy student at the University of Leipzig .

Furthermore Krastev published regularly in several magazines, including "Периодическо списание" (from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences ), "Труд", "Денница", "Демократически преглед", "Съвременна мисъл", "Листопад" на вестниците "Гражданин" , "Демократ" and "Народ". He also published articles on the new Bulgarian literature internationally in several print media, including the Russian magazine "Современник", the newspaper Europa (Russian: "Вестник Европы") from Saint Petersburg and the " International Weekly for Science, Art and Technology " from Berlin .
