Lorenz Naimer, founder and financier, as well as his partner Ing.Franz Kraus, who was responsible for technical development and implementation, researched in the field of special electrical equipment. On September 28, 1909, the company was officially renamed to the current company name Kraus & Naimer. In 1912 the company moved to Schumanngasse 35 in the 18th district of Währing , which was expanded between 1947 and 1961. Between 1968 and 1970 an additional production facility was built in Weikersdorf , Lower Austria. An assembly plant was added from 1989 to 1990 and expanded to almost twice its size in 2013.

In 1947 Hubert Laurenz Naimer took over the management of the company from his father Lorenz Naimer, which he expanded into a global group until his death in 2004. In 1981 Joachim Laurenz Naimer joined the management of the company, which he has been running in the third generation since 2004.

Products

The company initially produced knife switches, the forerunners of today's disconnectors. The other main products in the first four decades of the company's existence were lever and roller switches. At the end of the 1920s, the then new plastic Bakelite was used in switch construction. Kraus & Naimer is the owner of numerous patents and innovations in switchgear technology. In 1948, the company launched a modular cam switch (model C15) for the first time, which enables the manufacture of customer-specific switches. The process of mass production of customized products is generally known in industry also under the technical term of mass customization . Another milestone in the company's history was the development of the world's smallest cam switch (model CA4N), which has been available since 1994.

At the beginning of the 1950s, Kraus & Naimer was one of the first industrial companies to use thermoplastics , especially polyamides, in switchgear technology, which enabled switchgear to be fully insulated. The entire value chain from research & development to sales is handled by the company with specially established logistics and shipping centers and cooperation partners. The world market leader in the field of cam switches obtains its raw materials such as gold and copper from certified members of the Conflict Free Sourcing Initiative.
