The Krauser MKM 1000 was an exclusive sports motorcycle from Krauser in Mering , which was developed on the R 100 series from BMW .

History and technology

The Krauser MKM 1000 , which was introduced in 1980, had a completely newly developed tubular space frame . It was based on Peter Zettelmaier's thesis and consisted of 52 straight and 4 slightly bent chrome-molybdenum steel tubes. At 11.6 kg, the frame weighed over 6 kg less than the standard frame of the BMW R 100 S. The new motorcycle frame allowed a wider rear swing arm and thus a wider rear tire (130 / 80–18 instead of 4.00–18); to do this, the suspension travel of the telescopic fork was reduced, also to lower the center of gravity. The standard BMW two-valve engine of the CS with 70 hp (51 kW) at 7000 rpm served as the drive. The motorcycle accessories dealer Mike Krauser (1927–1991), known as a supplier of fairings and cases , supplied his characteristic "Krauser fairing". Despite its exclusive suspension kit, the performance of the Krauser MKM 1000 did not differ from that of the production model BMW R 100 S.

In 1982 the Krauser MKM 1000/4 was presented with a four-valve cylinder head developed by Willi Roth. The BMW R 100 CS engine with two 40 mm Bing equal pressure carburetors served as the basis . The bumpers now operated the valves via double fork rocker arms. The boxer engine thus made 12 hp more than the series engine, not only nominally, but also on the test bench, which led to a top speed that was 12 km / h higher. In 1983 the Krauser MKM 1000/4 was available at a price of DM 27,000, while the two-valve model was offered for DM 25,000. The four-valve head was also offered as a conversion kit for production BMWs at a price of DM 2,600. In 1988 the Krauser MKM 1000/4 was still offered as a one-off production. A total of 237 Krauser MKM 1000 are said to have been sold.
