The Waldbröl District Hospital has 305 fully inpatient beds and 15 day clinic places. Eight specialist departments are operated at the Waldbröl location.

The Waldbröl District Hospital is part of the Klinikum Oberberg GmbH group of companies . In addition to the district hospital in Waldbröl, this also includes the district hospital Gummersbach and the specialist clinic for psychiatry in Marienheide as well as the subsidiary Gesellschaft für Krankenhausdienstleistungs mbH (GKD) and the Society for Rehabilitation, Prevention and Care (RPP). The Bergisch Land GmbH Psychosomatic Clinic, a specialist clinic for addiction disorders , is also operated in Bergisch Gladbach .

The house was built in 1969 and is the academic teaching hospital of the University of Bonn . Around 800 employees work at the Waldbröl site .

history

In 1894 the Waldbröler pastor Wilhelm Hollenberg and the doctor Carl Venn suggested the establishment of a sanatorium and nursing home . After four years of construction, the house was opened in 1898. The house had to be closed in 1920. Difficult years followed with changing ownership. In 1937 the sanatorium and nursing home was taken over by the German Labor Front . After the Second World War , the Oberbergische Kreis took over the shares and continued to run the house as the Waldbröl District Hospital. In 1969 the new opening took place in a new building. In order to make future savings, KDW GmbH (Klinik Dienst Waldbröl GmbH) was founded on May 1, 2006, a 100% subsidiary of Kreis-Krankenhaus Waldbröl GmbH, into which the kitchen, cafeteria, laundry and other hospital-specific services were outsourced ( Participation report Oberbergischer Kreis 2006). However, the effects of the outsourcing to external companies and subsidiaries initially led to considerable additional costs due to restructuring measures. Outsourcing of the laboratory and in-house physical therapy were implemented in 2007. The patients received physical therapy from an external provider. In November 2007, the district hospital hit the headlines when the two managing directors of Kreiskrankenhaus Waldbröl GmbH, Klaus Bellingen and Michael Kirch, were suspended from the board of directors. This step was apparently related to the allegation that the two had taken out life insurance policies in their favor and thus enriched themselves at the expense of the district hospital.

In 2008 Klinikum Oberberg GmbH was founded , under whose roof the district hospitals in Gummersbach and Waldbröl as well as the Center for Mental Health - Klinik Marienheide and the Psychosomatic Clinic in Bergisch Gladbach are located.

Departments

The Waldbröl District Hospital has the specialist departments of cardiology , gastroenterology , oncology , general surgery , vascular surgery , trauma surgery and orthopedics , anesthesia / intensive medicine , emergency medicine and pain therapy as well as radiology .

In addition, there has been a clinic for general psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics since 2017, which has also been assigned sector care (acute care including admissions according to PsychKG ) for the cities of Waldbröl, Wiehl, Nümbrecht, Reichshof and Morsbach by the Cologne district government . In addition to a closed ward for acute cases, there is an open general psychiatric ward and a psychotherapeutic ward. A day clinic with 15 places and a psychiatric institute outpatient clinic (PIA) have existed since 2012.

The subsidiary RPP operates 24 places for cardiological outpatient rehabilitation (KARO), one of the first outpatient rehabilitation facilities in Germany.

There is also a palliative ward connected to the hemato-oncology department , which was expanded from three to six beds in 2007 as part of a new building.
