Taxonomy
The Cretan Ricotia was written by Pierre Edmond Boissier and Theodor Heinrich Hermann von Heldreich in Boissier: Diagn. Pl. Orient. Nov. 2 (8): 29, first described in 1849. The generic name possibly originated in honor of Paul Rycaut (1628-1700), an English diplomat and traveler of Huguenot descent.
