Kreuzberg Chapel

The Kreuzbergkapelle is a listed church building in Sichtigvor , a district of Warstein in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The historic hall was built in 1890 based on a design by Ludwig Schupmann . The property was acquired from Countess Kielmannsegge. The church council and representatives of the community provided the necessary guarantee for the maintenance of the building. A Göpelwerk was built to transport the building materials up the mountain . The walls are divided by large pass windows. A roof rider sits on the billet-hipped roof. The mosaic tympanum depicting the good shepherd above the portal is marked 1902.

Currently (2012) the Schützenbruderschaft von Sichtigvor with the band association created in 1924 is the caretaker of the facility.

Way of the Cross

A group of young men secretly made 15 wooden crosses in 1845 and set them up as a way of the cross on May 2, 1845 on a plot of land owned by the former mayor on Loermund . This way of the cross has been damaged by the weather over the years. A new way of the cross with stations made of sandstone and cast-iron reliefs was erected in 1965, the final cross is made of marble. Auxiliary Bishop Freusberg inaugurated the complex in September 1865.
