Cross barracks

Christian Steinicken : The Cross Barracks (1870)

The Kreuzkaserne was the oldest barracks of the Bavarian army in the Munich garrison . It stretched from near Karlstor to what was then Josephspital , that is, towards Sendlinger Tor , between today's Herzog-Wilhelmstrasse and the former city fortifications, now Sonnenstrasse; it was about 300 meters long. The barracks, which existed from 1670 to 1883, was named after the nearby Kreuzkirche .

After the last units of the troops were moved from the already dilapidated barracks to the Turkish barracks in August 1825 , the remaining part of the facility was still used as a military prison.
