Juruá , officially Município de Juruá , is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Amazonas . Juruá extends over 19,442.5 km² (2018). The community counted 10,802 inhabitants in the 2010 census and was estimated by the Brazilian statistical office on July 1, 2019 at 14,712 inhabitants, who are called Juruaens. This corresponds to a population density of 0.6 people per km².

The place received city rights on December 19, 1955, when parts of the territories of Carauari and Tefé were spun off and raised to a new city.

After the local elections in 2016, José Maria Rodrigues da Rocha is the Júnior of the Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (PMDB) for the 2017 to 2020 term of office .

Juruá was from 1989 to 2017 in the geostatistical mesoregion Sudoeste Amazonense and with six other municipalities in the microregion Juruá .

Surrounding towns are in the West Jutaí , in the north Fonte Boa , in eastern Uarini and Alvarães , south Carauari .
