history

In 1903, the Bad Kissingen-based sculptor Valentin Weidner created the Way of the Cross, donated by Michael Bayer, at the location of today's motorway slip road . In a cost estimate dated December 4, 1903, Weidner offered several versions: a version with a shell made of shell limestone or red sandstone with figures made of Terzé limestone or a version with reliefs made of galvanized bronze.

Weidner finally implemented the stations as limestone pictures in a shell limestone housing; the reliefs of the stations are based on the late Nazarene style . The estimated Weidner costs amounted to 2,500 M .

After the motorway feeder was built in 1967, the Way of the Cross was removed from its original location; the remaining there ravine was filled. In 1981/1982, the Way of the Cross was moved to its current location on the southern edge of the forest in Albertshausen in the Im Röder field department . There is a wooden cross made around 1877 at the 12th station of the Way of the Cross. This was donated between 1874 and 1880 by a resident of Albertshausen named Schießer after he had returned from the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 . The trunk of the cross was renewed and the body refreshed.

Since the Way of the Cross was weathered by the interim storage, the first eight stations had to be replaced by replicas in 1983, using the Stations of the Cross in the cemetery of Arnshausen (now also part of Bad Kissingen) as a model. The remaining stations were restored by the sculptor M. Keßler from Stangenroth . The new inauguration took place on May 31, 1984 by Pastor Friedrich Zahn.
