Way of the Cross (Schweinberg)

The Kreuzweg in Schweinberg , a district of the Hardheim community in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg , is located on Königheimer Strasse between Schweinberg and the Königheim town of Weikerstetten. The fourteen-station Way of the Cross leads to the Sacred Heart Chapel outside the village. These are cast iron stations, each of which is painted and has a wooden cross at the end. The exact author is not known. The Stations of the Cross were probably cast in the 1880s by a company from the Würzburg area, which also cast the similar stations of the Impfinger Kreuzweg built in 1884as well as the stations of the way of the cross to the pilgrimage chapel Liebfrauenbrunn near Werbach. The Freilandkreuzweg is a listed building .

Stations of the Cross

The Schweinberger Kreuzweg comprises fourteen stations, each with the following inscriptions:

  II. Jesus takes up the cross.

• 

  III. Jesus falls for the first time.

• 

  IV. Jesus meets his sad mother.

• 

  V. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry the cross.

• 

  VI. Veronica gives Jesus the handkerchief.

• 

  VII. Jesus falls the second time.

• 

  VIII. Jesus speaks to the weeping women.

• 

  IX. Jesus falls the third time.

• 

  X. Jesus is stripped of his clothes.

• 

  XI. Jesus is nailed to the cross.

• 

  XII. Jesus dies on the cross.

• 

  XIII. Jesus is taken down from the cross.

• 

  XIV. Jesus is laid in the grave.
