New Neustadt war memorial
The war memorial Neue Neustadt or Fortuna Monument is a listed war memorial in the Magdeburg district of Neue Neustadt in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it has been listed as a minor monument since July 30, 2001 under registration number 094 71209 .
General
The war memorial stands on the edge of the Fortuna sports field, which is also the namesake for the second name of the memorial. It was designed by the sculptor Fritz Hertel to commemorate the athletes who died in the First World War . Was the erection of the monument probably in 1930. At the monument is a sculpture of three larger than life athletes from limestone on a base made of brick with stone intent. In the middle is a soccer player whose head and arm raised in salute are damaged.
