The Blairgowrie War Memorial is a war memorial in the Scottish village of Blairgowrie and Rattray in the Council Area of Perth and Kinross . In 1981 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The monument was erected in 1920 to a design by Scottish architect Reginald Fairlie . A. Carrick is responsible for the sculptural design . It commemorates the fallen of the First World War .

It's in a little green space called Wellmeadow near the right bank of the Ericht . The A93 runs past the facility and crosses the Ericht over a bridge near the site. The extremely elaborate base of another monument is located on the south side of the nearly triangular green area. It bears the inscription: "In memory of Allan Macpherson of Blairgowrie who entered into rest 6th November, 1891 aged 75".

The base is formed by seven stepped octagonal plates. A high pedestal with a square floor plan rests on this . On three sides of the pedestal there are bronze plaques listing names. The second, tapering section of the pedestal shows the inscription "1914 - 1919" and a cross with a wreath on the southeast side. A high octagonal shaft rises up on it, decorated with a thistle and regimental badge. A sculpture of a pelican with raised wings rests on the shaft .

A small pedestal was added on the south-east side to commemorate those who died in World War II . There is a bronze statue of a grieving soldier on it. An inscription was added to the base, which indicates the fallen of the Korean War .
