War Merit Cross 1914

The War Merit Cross 1914 was on May 23, 1915 by Prince Heinrich XXVII. Reuss j. L. and was intended to be awarded to officers , NCOs and men who had previously received the Iron Cross First Class or who had distinguished and proven themselves in a special way through bravery in front of the enemy.

Order decoration

The sign of the order is a black enamelled paw cross made of silver , under whose horizontal cross arms a green enamelled laurel wreath runs, which is tied at the bottom by a loop and in turn rests on the vertical cross arms. On the horizontal arms of the cross, the golden year 19 14 can be seen, which is separated by a medallion . In the medallion the initial H (Heinrich) surmounted by a crown and below the Roman number XXVII (27). The reverse of the cross is smooth and without enamel .

Carrying method

The War Merit Cross was worn in 1914 as a plug medal on the left side of the chest next to the Iron Cross 1st Class, if it had been awarded.
