The Kriminal-Magazin was a German entertainment publication that published crime stories every month between 1929 and 1931 . The magazine was distributed by Wilhelm Goldmann Verlag in Leipzig and sold around 100,000 copies per issue. The editor was the English writer Edgar Wallace , whose photo was shown in the lower left corner of each cover. The magazine, which had around 100 pages, was relatively cheap, also because it was largely funded by advertising.

In addition to stories by well-known writers from the Weimar Republic (such as Otto Eis , Alma Karlin or Jo Hanns Rösler ), it also published analyzes and reports from a wide variety of authors on the subject of criminology . The magazine was provided with black and white photos, drawings and caricatures by well-known artists such as Elli Marcus and Hans Friedrich , with artistic individual photos printed on thicker cardboard.

Although the series was discontinued at the end of 1931, there was a new edition in 1935 and 1936, but the booklet was much simpler, it consisted largely of short and sequel stories.

Today the Kriminal-Magazin is, among other things, an important source for the biographies of lawyers who felt committed to the Weimar democracy and were portrayed in the magazine, such as Max Alsberg , Johannes Werthauer or Arthur Brandt .
