Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir

Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir (born January 21, 1949 in Hafnarfjörður ) is an Icelandic author .

She passed the final examination as a teacher at the Pedagogical University of Iceland in 1970 and did her Bachelor of Arts (in German and Icelandic ) in 1991. Further training in Germany and Denmark followed. From 1975 to 1988 she worked as a primary school teacher in Reykjavík . Then she changed her job and, like many other Icelandic writers, worked as a journalist for the newspaper Morgunblaðið . She worked there until 1995.

The first novel by Krístin Marja "Möwengelächter" ("Mávahlátur") was published in 1995. It is about the girl Agga, who grows up in a small Icelandic village in poor conditions. One day her handsome aunt Freya appears from America and shakes up the lives of the villagers. - The book was a great success and was filmed under the same title .

In the novel “Cool gray morning” (“Kular af degi”) the author tells about the teacher Thórsteina, who has a hot lover in France . The affection for a younger married colleague brings the arrogant woman back down to earth. In terms of content, the book is somewhat reminiscent of “The Time Thief” by Steinunn Sigurdardóttir , but is written in a completely different style.

Her novel Behind Stranger Doors ("Hús úr húsi") is about the "dark side of modern Icelandic society", a 30-year-old woman who works as a cleaner for rich people.

In 2006 she published the novel Die Eismalerin in German, which is about a generation of women in Iceland at the beginning of the 20th century.

She has also published a number of short stories. In 2011 the colors of the island ("Óreida á stríga") was published in German as a paperback.
