Krist Porte (born September 7, 1968 in Ghent ) is a former Belgian football player .

Career

Krist Porte's football career in the men's field began in 1986 at KAA Gent in the first division . In 1988 they were relegated. But the direct ascent followed. Then the club even established itself in the upper half of the table. Porte made regular appearances from his debut until he left in 1993.

From 1993 to 1996 Porte was active at Royal Antwerp . In 1996 he moved to Eendracht Aalst .

On December 21, 1996 there was an event that caused a sensation in the media and (not only) among football fans: In a penalty for RSC Anderlecht in the game against Eendracht Aalst, Porte Gilles De Bilde thought it was a possible one I wanted to run into the penalty area, stuck on the jersey. De Bilde pulled away and hit Porte in the face from the turn. Krist Porte's eye socket, jaw, and nose were broken. The referee had not noticed the incident and De Bilde went unpunished in the game. After that, pictures of Krist Porte covered in blood were shown in the media. A wave of indignation followed and De Bilde was banned from the association for three months, had to pay a fine and Porte compensation for pain and suffering. Due to the severity of the injury, he had to pause for eight months. Further legal disputes about further pain and suffering payments followed later.

Porte was able to play a few more games for Eendracht Aalst after the long break, but the incident meant a career turnaround. First he played for two and a half years for KVC Westerlo and then came to VVV-Venlo in the second Dutch league via the Israeli club Hapoel Tzafririm Holon .

In 2002/03 he still played for KVK Beringen and then had to end his career due to injury. The reason was knee problems, but De Bilde's punch and the subsequent long forced break were "fatal" for him.
