from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kristina Abrahamsdotter (Finnish Kristiina Abrahamintytär ; * 1432 ; † 1492 ) was a Finnish noblewoman . She was the mistress of the Swedish King Charles VIII for many years , who married her shortly before his death.

Life

Little is known about the life of Kristina Abrahamsdotter. She was probably the daughter of Abraham Pedderson, the governor of Raseborg . Charles VIII was exiled to Finland in 1465, where he met Kristina. In 1465 she had a son by him (Karl Karlsonn Bonde; † 1485) and lived with him until Karl's death. At an unknown point in time, their daughter Anna Karlsdotter was born, who later married the governor of Västerås .

Charles VIII was able to return to Sweden in 1468, where he reigned as king until his death on May 15, 1470. Shortly before his death, and according to oral tradition even only on his deathbed, he married Kristina. After the funeral, the dispute over the succession began. The aristocracy was not ready to accept Karl Karlsonn Bonde, who had suddenly become “married” and was only five years old, as his successor. Since Kristina had no support at court, Sten Sture the elder became the new head of Sweden. Nothing is known about Kristina's further life except the date of her death.
