Kristina Lange

Kristina Erika Lange (* 1939 ) is a German Tibetologist and author .

Kristina Lange studied Tibetology , Sinology and Indology at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1957 to 1962 . In 1962 she completed her studies with a thesis on Tibetan medicine in Leipzig. In 1969 Lange published a list of the reincarnations of the Dalai Lama including those before the first Dalai Lama Gendun Drub . In 1974 she received her doctorate in Tibetology at the Philosophical Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin with the work The Works of the Regent Saṅs rgyas rgya mc'o (1653–1705): A philological-historical study of the Tibetan-language literature. It is about the rulers in Tibet after the fifth Dalai Lama Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso , Sanggye Gyatso , who founded a school for Tibetan medicine and astrology in 1694 .

From 1960 to 1973 she worked as a research assistant at the Völkerkundemuseum Leipzig and taught Tibetan at the Karl Marx University. In October 1973 she was appointed senior research assistant at Humboldt University. She held this position until she retired in September 1998.

Due to the Cold War , she mainly worked with scientists from communist countries. She conducted research in Ulaanbaatar , Ulan-Ude , Moscow and Saint Petersburg . In 1993 she and a Tibetan scientist from the Tibetan Academy of Social Sciences developed new teaching materials for teaching Tibetan.
