Kristine Bjørdal Leine (born August 6, 1996 ) is a Norwegian soccer player . She plays for Reading FC Women and made her debut with the Norwegian women's national team in November 2017 .

Career

In October 2011, at the age of 15, she played her first game for the Norwegian club Fortuna Ålesund , for which she played in games in the second division ( 1. Divisjon ) and the Norwegian championship until the 2014/15 season. She then moved to the first division club Røa IL . During her time there, she made her debut for the national team against Canada on November 28, 2017.

In addition to her work as a football player, she began training as a nurse. The fact that in 2018 she was initially not given a leave of absence from her school in order to go to the national team's World Cup qualifiers attracted media attention. Her teammates Maren Mjelde and Maria Thorisdottir then criticized the fact that it is made difficult for many female soccer players to combine their training and sport.

In May 2019, she was finally not called up in the national team for the World Cup in France . This was seen as a surprising decision by coach Martin Sjögren . In June 2019 it was announced that she would be leaving Røa IL for English first division club Reading FC Women . There she played eleven games in the season that was prematurely canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
