Kristján Eldjárn [ ˈkʰrɪstjaun ˈɛltjaurtn̩ ] (born December 6, 1916 in Tjörn in Svarfaðardalur, Iceland; † September 14, 1982 ) was the third president of Iceland from 1968 to 1980 .

His parents were the farmer and teacher Þórarinn Kr. Eldjárn and Sigrún Sigurhjartardóttir. He studied archeology in Copenhagen and Reykjavík and was director of the National Museum in Reykjavík . He was married to Halldóra Ingólfsdóttir.

He was elected for the first time on June 30, 1968 and his term lasted from August 1, 1968 to July 31, 1980.
