The 1996/97 season was the sixth season of the Croatian Ice Hockey League , the highest Croatian ice hockey division . Champion was for the second time in the history of the KHL Medveščak Zagreb .

In the main round, each of the four teams should play a total of ten games. All four teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
