distribution
The crown anemone is native to the Mediterranean . It grows on rock corridors, in garrigues , on meadows, on fallow fields as well as in vineyards and olive groves at altitudes of 0 to 700 meters (rarely up to 1200 meters).
use
The crown anemone is rarely used as an ornamental plant for alpine houses , pot culture in cold boxes, rock gardens in winter-mild areas and as a cut flower . The species has been in culture since 1596. The cultivated forms are very variable in leaf shape, flower size and flower color. There are numerous varieties with simple flowers (e.g. 'De Caen' hybrids), semi-double flowers (e.g. St. Birgit 'hybrids) and double flowers.
