Krossobanen is the name of a cable car in the Norwegian town of Rjukan, south of the Hardangervidda National Park .

history

The aerial tramway is the oldest cable car in Northern Europe. It was built in 1928 by Adolf Bleichert & Co. from Leipzig - Gohlis and was a gift from the Norsk Hydro company to the residents of Rjukan, who otherwise had no sunlight in the very narrow and dark Vestfjordalen during the winter.

The valley station is at 403 m, the mountain station (Gvepseborg) at 886 m. The journey takes 4½ minutes. There is a lookout tower at the mountain station.
