Krug & Schadenberg
The publishing house Krug & Schadenberg was founded in 1993 by the graphic designer Dagmar Schadenberg and the editor Andrea Krug in Berlin and has since pursued the goal of publishing “books for lesbians and women-loving women”. Krug & Schadenberg is the only publisher in Germany that exclusively publishes lesbian literature. Currently, around four to six titles appear in the print sector each year. E-books have also been published since 2013.
Publishing program
The focus is on the program areas of fiction with a lesbian perspective (contemporary and historical novels as well as short stories) and non-fiction books as well as guides on all topics relevant to lesbians.
The publisher has taken over the books of the expired Daphne Verlag from Susanne Amrain , provided there are still stocks.
Fiction
The American-speaking authors who are published by Krug & Schadenberg include Leslie Feinberg , whose novel “Stone Butch Blues” sparked the gender debate in Germany and is now in its fifth edition. Literarily sophisticated fiction from the American continent came with Ann Wadsworth, whose “Mrs. Medina ”is considered a“ late bloomer ”novel, and Sylvia Brownrigg to Germany.
With the "Queen of Lesbian Romance" Karin Kallmaker , a number of entertaining lesbian books were published. Above all, these are stories “in which two women find happiness despite all the difficulties [...]. We work, love, laugh and live around the clock, and romance novels make our “ordinary” life very special ”.
The award-winning author Mireille Best (“There are no people in paradise”) and the French- Canadian Louise Auger (“A summer love in Paris”) contribute to the publishing program from the French-speaking region .
The Indo-British author Shamim Sarif published her first three novels "The Hidden World" (2007) - which has already been successfully filmed under the original title " The World Unseen " - and "The life they dreamed of" ( Krug & Schadenberg). 2010) and “Mitten ins Herz” (2012), which was also successfully filmed under the original title “ I Can't Think Straight ”.
While distant places and customs play a major role in Shamim Sarif, all the storylines are bundled in the novel “Turbulenzen” by Leslie Larson at LA International Airport, which was published in late 2009. This literary thriller was recommended on DeutschlandRadio as "absolutely worth reading". It also sparked a debate about the content orientation of the publisher, which revolved around the question of what constitutes a lesbian novel.
The German-speaking authors published by Krug & Schadenberg include Claudia Breitsprecher (“Before the morning is the night” and “Time out”), Antonia Becker (“Maybe love feels like this”), Birgit Utz (“Smalltown Blues”) and vor Above all, the astute chronicler of local lesbian life Manuela Kuck , who published her 10th title with Krug & Schadenberg with the novel “acquittal” published in autumn 2010. The author Astrid Wenke takes up current political issues in her novels: the novel “A Billion for Süderlenau” revolves around the subject of unconditional basic income and “Windmills on Wedding” (to be published in autumn 2014) deals with the subject of gentrification .
Non-fiction
In the second area of the program you can find stories such as the anthologies “Fine and common”, “Desire”, “Seductions” and “Moments”, as well as “narrative non-fiction books” that provide information on a variety of lesbian topics: Viola Roggenkamp writes about mothers and Fathers of lesbian daughters in “She should have that from me?” And “My picture of him”, Sonja Schock lets once heterosexual, now lesbian women have their say in “And then you came ... and I loved a woman”, and Claudia Breitsprecher documents the work experience of lesbian teachers in "Bring your girlfriend with you". Traude Bührmann portrays lesbians and old people in “Wrinkles”, and Ulrike Janz lets lesbians of different years report their experiences in “Metamorphoses”.
Successful books that address the diverse network of relationships in lesbian life, love, lust and eroticism are among others. a. Silke Buttgereits “I was yours forever - lesbians and their ex-lovers”, Renate Stendhal's “The colors of lust - sex in lesbian love relationships”, the sex books “Best of Susie Sexpert” by Susie Bright and “She loves her” by Felice Newman, as well as the two guides "In every relationship - suggestions for lovers" and "Tantra for connoisseurs" by Christa Schulte.
In spring 2008, Silvy Pommerenke published “Kisses in Pink”, an entertaining coming-out book for young women. The non-fiction area was expanded in 2011 with the new edition of Celeste West's bestseller “On the Art of Loving Women”.
