Kryvorizhstal (current name: Ukrainian АрселорМіттал Кривий Ріг ArselorMittal Kryvyi Rih ) is a Ukrainian steel producer based in the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih .

The group was founded in August 1934 by the Soviet government. During the Second World War , the plant was conquered by the Wehrmacht and initially came under the compulsory administration of the German state mining and steelworks company East . As part of the Iwan program , the company was taken over as a sponsorship company by the German Hoesch AG . With the German withdrawal, the plant became a Soviet state enterprise again.

The Group made in 2004 about seven million tons of steel ago and ranked therefore among the steelmakers the world's number 30. In 2004, Kryvorizhstal posted a net profit of 378 million USD and employs in the year 2014 more than 50,000 employees. The company has its own ore and coal reserves.

In October 2005, Mittal Steel Company acquired Kryvorishstal for $ 4.8 billion in a televised auction. The company has since been incorporated into the Mittal Group under the name Mittal Steel Kryvyi Rih . In the medium term, Mittal would like to increase production to 10 million tons per year. In 2004, the largest German steel producer ThyssenKrupp produced a total of 17.6 million tons of steel in all of its European steelworks.
