The Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival (KLIFF) is an annual international event held in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . The KLIFF is organized by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).

history

The Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival began in February 2003 as a one-off Kuala Lumpur World Film Festival organized by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia in collaboration with the Non-Aligned Conference Movement that same year under the theme "Peace, Harmony, Nonviolence and non-discrimination "was organized.

Three years later, a consortium of entertainment companies decided to host an annual film festival , the Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival (KLIFF). It was organized by FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia). In 2007 50 films from 18 countries were shown under the motto "Celebrating Cultural Diversity" . The 22 films presented in the competition came from all five continents. There were documentaries , short films and animations. The budget for the film festival was 4 million Malaysian ringgits . The festival was held at the Cathay Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara from November 28th to December 2nd and ended with the Perdana Awards Ceremony at the Putra World Trade Center. For 2012 the 8th – 12th June planned as a new edition.

The jury members for the competition were U-Wei Haji Shaari from Malaysia, Andrew Vial from Australia, Jeff Bollow from New Zealand, Sozo Teruoka from Japan and Tikoy Aguiluz from the Philippines. The prices:

  • Best camera - not by chance (Brazil)
  • Best Special Effects (Jury Merit Award) - Transformers (USA)
  • Best Editing - Raphael Nadjari (Tehilim)
  • Special Jury Award - 1957: Hati Malaya
  • Best African Film - Namibia - The Struggle for Freedom ( Namibia )
  • Best South American Film - Cyrano Fernández (Venezuela)
  • Best North American Film - A Sunday in Kigali, Canada
  • Best European Film - Tehilim (France)
  • Best Asian Film - One Summer with You (China)
  • Best Documentary - 4 (Australia)
  • Best Animation - UPIN & Ipin (Malaysia)
