Namibia - The struggle for freedom (AKA English Namibia: The Struggle for Liberation ) is a Namibian feature film , the political awakening and its share of the Namibian liberation struggle of Samuel Nujoma told, the first president of Namibia. In the form of a documentary film that spans more than 60 years, it shows the length and brutality of the conflict. The film mixes real with fictional characters to show the spirit and sacrifice of the fighters in this liberation struggle. It ends with independence in 1990.
The screenplay for the film, which is based on the biography of Sam Nujoma , was written by Charles Burnett , who also directed it. The film was released in 2007.

Carl Lumbly plays the Namibian freedom fighter and first President Sam Nujoma . Joel Haikali was employed for Sam Nujoma's early years . Danny Glover plays the priest Elias, who becomes a friend of Sam Nujoma in the course of the film.

The production cost of 100 million NAD , approximately 15 million US dollars , was borne by the Pan-African Center of Namibia . The languages of the film are: English (main language), Afrikaans , Oshivambo , Otjiherero and German . The dialogues were synchronized in the English language, all other languages are translated using subtitles.

The film was screened at the Festival de cine Africano Córdoba in 2008. In Germany the film was released on March 19, 2010 as Namibia - The Struggle for Freedom and in France on February 14, 2012 as Namibia on DVD.
criticism
According to Jim Dingeman, the film is a hagiography of the leaders of SWAPO in the war of liberation against South Africa. For Robert Koehler (on variety.com ) the film is not a good implementation of the subject. He babbles to himself and is too focused on facts than on the performing arts.
