Cultural building fund Munich

The Kulturbaufonds München is an association that was founded on February 19, 1946 to promote the reconstruction of the destroyed city and its art and cultural monuments.

This association, the popular counterpart to the elitist and intellectual friends of the residence , was initiated by the then Lord Mayor Karl Scharnagl and the Upper Bavaria Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

The aim was to raise funds through the acquisition of donations, the sale of art works, lotteries and postcard campaigns, with which initially the Palais Preysing , St. Matthew's Church, the Propylaea, the Siegestor, the Wittelsbacher Fountain, the Rindermarkt Fountain , the fish fountain at Marienplatz and the war memorial in front of the Army Museum could be secured and repaired. In the immediate post-war period, the city's finances were primarily tied up by housing construction.

After the currency reform on June 18, 1948 , the association lost about a third of the association's assets and was criticized for not having used the donations in time.

The fund still exists today and is part of the building department of the city administration .
