Müritzsee cultural cosmos
The Kulturkosmos Müritz eV is a cultural association of u. a. organizes various festivals such as the Fusion Festival and the at.tension theater festival. The association was founded in 1999 and emerged from a group of cultural workers mainly from Hamburg . The association has about 30 members, the chairman is Martin Eulenhaupt.
The association forms the official framework for the festivals on the former Soviet military airfield in Lärz an der Müritz. In the mid-1990s, a group of mostly Hamburg artists and cultural workers formed. The group initially called itself "U-Site" (for "underground location") and from 1993 onwards organized cultural events in mostly remote locations. The hallmark of the jointly organized events was their non-commercial character and broad content orientation. Various genres from the fields of music , theater and performance were presented at the events. The overarching goal of the group was to create a counterpoint to previous forms of culture, which it perceived as increasingly commercialized, such as B. to establish the techno culture that was strong in the 90s .
The association partially worked on the history of the site. The airport site was initially used by the National Socialists as a Rechlin test site . In 1945 this and the nearby Lärz airfield were handed over to the Red Army , which used it until 1993. The association owns 100 hectares of land on the former airfield site.
