Lothar Ullrich

Lothar Ullrich (born March 31, 1932 in Berlin-Karlshorst ; † April 16, 2013 in Erfurt ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman, dogmatist and fundamental theologian.

Life

In 1951 Ullrich passed the Abitur at the Franz-Mehring-Schule in Berlin-Lichtenberg and studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Fulda, Erfurt and Neuzelle from 1951 to 1956. On June 19, 1956, he was ordained a priest in Berlin-Reinickendorf by Auxiliary Bishop Tkotsch . Kaplan years followed in Prenzlau / Uckermark . In 1958 Ullrich became a scientific assistant at the chair for dogmatics of the philosophy-theological studies in Erfurt. From 1962 he was subregens and lecturer at the Archbishop's seminary in Huysburg b. Halberstadt and from September 1965 rain of the seminary in Erfurt .

Lothar Ullrich was always concerned about ecumenism . In 1966 he founded the Ecumenical-Theological Working Group in the GDR together with Wolfgang Trilling and the Protestant theologian Ulrich Kühn and was later a member of the all-German Jaeger-Stählin Circle .

In 1967 he was chosen for its thesis entitled issues of doctrine of creation by Jakob of Metz OP A comparative study of Sentences comments from the Dominican school in 1300 at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz for Dr. theol. PhD.

After teaching assignments in Erfurt, he became a lecturer in 1970 and full professor for dogmatics in 1974 at the Philosophical-Theological Study in Erfurt. Here he was rector in 1976/77, 1983/84 and 1988/89 . The Johann Adam Möhler Institute in Paderborn appointed him to the Scientific Advisory Board in 1981. As a consultant he worked at the ecumenical assembly in the GDR . He was co-editor of the journals Catholica and Ökumenische Rundschau .

The Academy for Catholic Theology in Warsaw (now Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University Warsaw ) awarded him in 1989 “in recognition of his services to theological science, ecumenism, the training of priests in the GDR and the cooperation of theologians from both German states and Poland “The honorary doctorate . From 1992 to 1996 Lothar Ullrich was a specialist advisor to the German Research Foundation . In 1997 he was honored with a festschrift on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

Ullrich retired on September 1, 2000 and taught from 2001 to 2004 as an associate professor for dogmatics and fundamental theology at the Theological Faculty of the Silesian University in Katowice .
