history

The forerunner of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University was the Catholic Theological Academy ( Akademia Teologii Katolickiej ) in Warsaw. The conversion of the Catholic Theological Academy into a university and the establishment of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University took place through a law passed by the Sejm , the Polish Parliament, on September 22, 1999, and by the President of the Republic of Poland on September 30 Was announced in 1999. The day before, on September 29, 1999, the government of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Bishops' Conference in the Palace of the Archbishops of Warsaw had concluded an agreement on state church law . This contract determines - in accordance with the Concordat - the legal status of the new university and its faculties ; it guarantees the freedom of scientific research as well as the church's participation in the management of the university through the Grand Chancellor .

Ryszard Rumianek was the rector of the university from 2005 to 2010 . The University's Grand Chancellor is Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz .
