Ryszard Rumianek (born November 7, 1947 in Warsaw , Poland , † April 10, 2010 in Smolensk , Russia ) was a Polish, Roman Catholic clergyman, theologian and biblical scholar . From 2005 to 2010 he was rector of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University .

Life

Ryszard Rumianek studied 1966-1972 theology at Seminar in Warsaw, and received 1972 ordination by Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński . At the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, he graduated from 1974 to 1977 postgraduate studies in biblical studies . After a period of study at the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum in Jerusalem , he was in 1979 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome to Dr. theol. PhD . From 1979 to 1982 he was prefect of the Diocesan Seminary in Warsaw, until 1994 its vice-rector.

In 1995 Rumianek completed his habilitation at the Pontifical Theological Faculty in Warsaw (Bobolanum) . In 1996 he was appointed assistant professor, in 1998 he was appointed associate professor. Rumianek has been Vice Rector since 2002 and Rector of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University since October 1, 2005 . In 2009 he was awarded the Polonia Restituta Order , the second highest order in the Polish Republic , for his scientific work and pedagogical commitment .

On April 10, 2010 Rumianek died in a plane crash near Smolensk in Russia. He was a member of a Polish delegation led by the Polish President Lech Kaczyński .

Posthumously Rumianek was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order Polonia Restituta (Krzyż Komandorski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski) on April 16, 2010 .
