Paul Tkotsch

Paul Josef Tkotsch (born June 29, 1895 in Gogolin , † May 14, 1963 in Berlin ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Berlin .

Life

After attending high school in Opole, he studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the University of Wroclaw . Since 1919 he was a member of the KDSt.V. Marchia Breslau (today Aachen), later in Berlin also the KAV Suevia Berlin and the KDSt.V. Makaria (today Aachen) in the Cartell Association of the Catholic German student associations . He was ordained a priest on March 17, 1923 in Breslau . He worked in Berlin as chaplain , ordinariate secretary , cathedral vicar and Caritas director. On August 13, 1930, he was incardinated in the newly founded diocese of Berlin. In 1940 he became pastor of St. Mauritius in Berlin-Lichtenberg .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on May 12, 1948 titular bishop of Eleutherna (Crete) and auxiliary bishop in Berlin . He was ordained bishop on June 11, 1948, by the then Berlin bishop and cardinal, Konrad von Preysing , in the Rosary Basilica in Berlin-Steglitz . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Fargo and later Apostolic Nuncio in Germany, Aloysius Muench , and the Coadjutor Bishop of Meißen , Heinrich Wienken .

In 1952, Tkotsch chaired the 75th German Catholic Day in Berlin. Bishop Wilhelm Weskamm appointed him to the cathedral chapter of St. Hedwig's Cathedral in 1954 .

In the last years of his life, Tkotsch was increasingly prevented from performing his episcopal service due to illness. He died on May 14, 1963 in East Berlin's St. Hedwig Hospital . His grave is in the St. Hedwig-Friedhof III in Berlin-Reinickendorf .
