Heinrich Theissing (born December 11, 1917 in Neisse , † November 11, 1988 in Schwerin ) was a Roman Catholic theologian and bishop .

Life

The son of the lawyer Wilhelm Theissing and his wife Ursula geb. Ortmmeyer was active in the Catholic youth movement. He studied Catholic theology in Breslau , Munich and Vienna . On 21 December 1940 Theissing was Adolf Cardinal Bertram to priests for the diocese of Wroclaw ordained . He worked as a chaplain in Glogau .

After the Second World War he was expelled to Cottbus and then became a chaplain and youth pastor in Görlitz . In 1947 he organized a youth pilgrimage to Neuzelle and suggested the creation of the Neuzell pilgrimage song for the pilgrimages that have taken place every year since then . Since 1953 he fulfilled responsible tasks in the Archbishopric of Görlitz .

On March 3, 1963, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Berlin with the titular seat Mina and consecrated on May 7, 1963 by the then Bishop of Berlin and later cardinal, Archbishop Alfred Bengsch . Theissing was appointed coadjutor of the episcopal commissioner in Schwerin Bernhard Schräder on February 12, 1970 and followed this in office after his death on December 10, 1971. On July 23, 1973 he was made Apostolic Administrator of Schwerin. On December 5, 1987, he resigned from this office.

Heinrich Theissing was particularly involved in the beatification of the doctor and later Bishop Nils Stensen , which he was able to witness on October 23, 1988 in Rome. He died shortly after his return and was buried in the forest cemetery in Schwerin.

Theissing was the main consecrator of Bishop Norbert Werbs .
