Norbert Werbs (born May 20, 1940 in Warnemünde ) is a German theologian and auxiliary bishop emeritus in the Archdiocese of Hamburg .

Life

After studying Catholic theology at the Erfurt seminary , Werbs received the sacrament of ordination in Rostock in 1964 . He was chaplain at St. Joseph in Neubrandenburg until 1966 and from 1966 assistant at the philosophy and theological studies in Erfurt . Afterwards he became chaplain and pastor at St. Josef in Parchim and from 1975 pastor in Neubrandenburg.

In January 1981, appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Amaura and Auxiliary Bishop of the Apostolic Administrator in Schwerin . He received the episcopal ordination on March 25th of the same year by Heinrich Theissing in the Rostock Christ Church ; Co-consecrators were Joachim Wanke and Theodor Kettmann .

From 1983 to 1990 Norbert Werbs was chairman of Caritas Mecklenburg and from March 31, 1992 diocesan administrator for the episcopal office of Schwerin. After the incorporation of the episcopal office of Schwerin into the newly founded Archdiocese of Hamburg, Werbs had been Episcopal Vicar of the Archbishop of Hamburg in Mecklenburg since 1995 and was also responsible for youth pastoral care and school issues as well as chairman of the liturgy and church music commission in the archbishopric.

On May 20, 2015, his 75th birthday, Pope Francis granted his age-related resignation .
