Theodor Kettmann

Theodor Kettmann (born November 27, 1938 in Beste ) is a German clergyman and auxiliary bishop emeritus in Osnabrück .

Life

Theodor Kettmann studied after graduating from high school in Cloppenburg theology and philosophy in Frankfurt and Münster and received on 1 February in 1964 by Bishop Hermann Helmut Wittler the priesthood for the Diocese of Osnabrück . He then worked in pastoral care in Hamburg and Fürstenau.

As cathedral chaplain , he was appointed titular bishop of Busiris and auxiliary bishop in Osnabrück in 1978 at the age of 40 . He received his episcopal ordination on February 18, 1979 in the High Cathedral of Osnabrück by Bishop Wittler; Co-consecrators were the Osnabrück auxiliary bishop Karl-August Siegel as well as the Münster auxiliary bishop and official for the Oldenburg region Max Georg Freiherr von Twickel . His episcopal motto "Let us strive for that which contributes to the building up of the church" comes from the letter of the apostle Paul to the Romans ( Rom 14.19  EU ).

Theodor Kettmann was Episcopal Vicar in the Diocese of Osnabrück , responsible for Caritas and social services as well as for training the permanent diaconate . During the vacancy between Bishops Ludwig Averkamp and Franz-Josef Bode in 1995, he headed the diocese as diocesan administrator for eleven months . He was chairman of the Diocesan Caritas Association in the Diocese of Osnabrück and a member of the commissions for marriage and family and for charitable issues of the German Bishops' Conference .

On November 30, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation submitted by Theodor Kettmann for health reasons. Until his successor Johannes Wübbe took office, he continued his service in the Diocese of Osnabrück.

In 2013 he was awarded the bread plate , the highest award of the German Caritas Association.
