Cult car from Strettweg
The cult car of Strettweg (also Strettweg sacrificial car ) is a 7th century BC. A bronze cult car made in the 3rd century BC , which was found in 1851 while leveling a princely grave of the Hallstatt culture in Strettweg near Judenburg in Austria . In addition to the carriage, other grave goods such as jewelry and amphorae made of bronze, iron weapons and bridles were found.
The 46.2 cm high car consists of a rectangular, perforated base plate with four spoked wheels. In the center of the wagon stands an approximately 32 cm high female figure carrying a bowl-shaped object with raised hands. Next to her the bowl is held by two scissor-shaped supports. An almost hemispherical cauldron rests on the bowl, which is closed off by an openwork rim with a spiral ornament. In addition to the kettle carrier, there are numerous other figures in the form of standing and mounted people as well as horse and deer-like animals. The displayed scene is interpreted as a victim scene. The wagon probably served as a cult object , to hold libations .
The Strettweg victim wagon was restored in 2009 and is in the original in the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz , Archaeological Museum Schloss Eggenberg . A copy is on display in the Judenburg Museum. The insurance value is 50 million euros.
In 2012, further excavations were started in the area of the site and another princely grave was also found.
