Kundeshwar is a district of Tikamgarh in the Bundelkhand region in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh . During the British colonial times , the place served higher military and civil officials as a Hill Station .

location

Kundeshwar is located about 6 km south of Tikamgarh city center near the Jamani River.

Population and economy

The population consists mainly of Bundeli- speaking small farmers who grow rice, wheat, lentils, etc. in their fields. Tourism hardly plays a role in the former Hill Station .

history

According to legends and traditions, the place already existed in the Middle Ages. However, no buildings or sculptures from this period have been preserved.

Attractions

The Kundadev Mahadev temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva . It has existed for a long time, but was completely rebuilt in the 1960s on an octagonal floor plan, which is unusual for temple buildings. Above the cella ( garbhagriha ) there is an octagonal Shikhara tower with 4 small accompanying niches, which ends in a large ring stone ( amalaka ) with a vase ( kalasha ) on it.

Festivals

In Kundeshwar three pilgrimage festivals ( melas ) are held every year , at which purification ceremonies in the nearby river used to play an important role, but which have now taken on the character of folk festivals.
