from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kunigunde von Brandenburg-Kulmbach (born June 17, 1523 in Ansbach , † February 27, 1558 in Pforzheim ) was a princess of Brandenburg-Kulmbach and by marriage Margravine of Baden .

Life

Kunigunde was the youngest child of Margrave Kasimir von Brandenburg-Kulmbach (1481–1527) from his marriage to Susanne (1502–1543), daughter of Duke Albrecht IV of Bavaria .

She married Margrave Charles II of Baden-Durlach (1529–1577) on March 10, 1551 in Neustadt an der Aisch . Kunigunde was raised in the Lutheran faith while her husband was a member of the Catholic Church. Karl began to turn to the Reformation , also under the influence of his wife .

After his ostracism in 1554, Kunigunde took her brother Albrecht Alcibiades into their residence in Pforzheim, where he died in 1557, a year before his sister. In 1556, both were among the first prominent spa guests of the Liebenzell mineral springs . Kunigunde was buried in the collegiate church of St. Michael in Pforzheim, in whose choir there is also a cenotaph of the margravine.

The precious prayer book of the Margravine of Brandenburg , which had been made by Narcissus Renner for her mother in 1520 , came into Baden possession via Kunigunde . It is now in the Baden State Library .

progeny

Kunigunde had two children from their marriage:

  • Marie (1553–1561)
  • Albrecht (1555–1574)
