The Darmstadt Art Archive e. V. is a documentation center for all of the fine arts in the Darmstadt area .
history
The Darmstädter Künstler Archive (ADK) was founded on October 1st, 1984 by a small group of interested art lovers. The archive emerged from the work and in the rooms of the private Netuschil gallery, founded in 1976 .
The archive has been located in the John F. Kennedy House (today: Literaturhaus ) since 1998 ; at the same time the archive was renamed the Darmstadt Art Archive . The chairman of the association is the Darmstadt gallery owner Claus K. Netuschil.
In 2014 the art archive received an extensive donation from HEAG , which was shown in the exhibition “From Eugen Bracht to Pierre Kröger: a Darmstadt picture treasure from 1900 to 2000”.
Collection, archive, library
The archive sees itself as a documentation center for all of the fine arts in the Darmstadt area. There is extensive archive material on artists, works of art and exhibition events from the beginning of Darmstadt's art history to the present, as well as a reference library with over 4,000 volumes - artist monographs, exhibition and art catalogs and a collection of video films - for the more than 550 members of the archive (as of 2014 ), research and general public use.
The Darmstadt Art Archive also keeps the extensive archives and legacies on the work of Karl Thylmann and Annelise Reichmann . A collection of Darmstadt art that is constantly being built up, from which exhibitions are shown at regular intervals in its own rooms, includes groups of works by Esteban Fekete , Well Habicht , Heinrich Reinhard Kröh , Wilhelm Loth , Helmut Lortz , Wilhelm Philipp , Karl-Heinz Schnabel , Jörg Sussebach , Robert Cauer , oil paintings , watercolors and graphics by various artists, as well as the written bequests of the sculptor Fritz Schwarzbeck and the art critic Robert D'Hooghe .
The archive also has a collection of posters.
Others
In addition to documentation and archive work, the archive offers an extensive program of events, such as museum days, short trips, lectures and guided tours through exhibitions inside and outside Darmstadt, studio visits and workshop discussions. The archive publishes catalogs and publications on art and art history in Darmstadt. The employees all work on a voluntary basis.
