Robert Cauer the Younger

Robert Cauer the Younger (born January 3, 1863 in Kreuznach ; † February 28, 1947 in Darmstadt ) was a German sculptor and member of the Cauer family of artists .

Life

Robert Cauer the Younger was the son and pupil of Karl Cauer . In 1880 he made a study trip to Rome . In 1889 he worked as a portraitist in St. Louis . After another stay in St. Louis (1904), he settled in Darmstadt in 1906, where he worked as a freelance sculptor.

In 1902, the year in which he married, he created the monument to Michel Mort and the Battle of Sprendlingen in 1279 , a copy of which is now on the egg market in Bad Kreuznach . The original is in the Bad Kreuznach townhouse. On November 25, 1916, he was awarded the title of professor by the Hessian Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig . In 1917 Prof. Robert Cauer d. J. awarded the Hessian citizenship.

His grave is in the old Darmstadt cemetery . Its tympanum is located at the Pauluskirche in Darmstadt .

In Darmstadt a street ( 49 ° 51 ′ 14.3 ″  N , 8 ° 40 ′ 19.4 ″  E ) was named after Robert Cauer.
