The Kunstareal Munich is a museum district in the Maxvorstadt in Munich . Although the museum district as such has grown historically, the term art area has only been used since the creation of the Pinakothek der Moderne and the Brandhorst Museum . Previously, the quarter was more known as a museum quarter . The area surrounding the Pinakotheken around Königsplatz is unique, with art, cultural and scientific facilities being concentrated on 66 hectares. There are 16 museums, exhibition halls, around 40 galleries and six universities. It is around the Pinakotheken itselfPinakothek sculpture park .

Museums

Some of the state's natural science museums are also in the immediate vicinity, such as the Paleontological Museum , the Empire of Crystals Museum and the Geological Museum .

Further planning

Since the neighboring LMU building and the Reich der Kristalle museum in the area are so old that one no longer speaks of renovation, but rather of demolition and new construction, new perspectives emerge. Now an overall concept is to be developed for the area between Gabelsberger-, Theresien-, Türken- and Barer Straße. In February 2019, the Pinakothek der Moderne foundation bought the architect of the Pinakothek der Moderne the rights of use for the second construction phase, which had not yet been completed.
