Kunsthalle and Wrangelturm in Koenigsberg

The Königsberg art gallery was an art gallery in the provincial capital of East Prussia, Königsberg .

construction

Eduard Anderson , who directed the exhibitions of the Königsberger Kunstverein , suggested the construction of a separate art exhibition hall. 80,000 marks were collected. Consul Max Minkowski (brother of Hermann Minkowski ), Kommerzienrat Felix Heumann and court photographer Gottheil donated 5,000 marks each. The city gave the rest.

The hall was built by Friedrich Lahrs at the Wrangelturm on the southwest corner of the Oberteich . It was opened in 1913 with a memorial exhibition developed by Adalbert Bezzenberger at the time of the survey in 1813. During the First World War the art gallery was rented by the field post . Art exhibitions took place again in the Neue Börse . As chairman of the art association, Governor Paul Blunk handed the art gallery over to the city for exhibition purposes in 1924.

The air raids on Königsberg damaged the structure. Used as a warehouse (1951) and school (1985) in Kaliningrad , it became a market hall in the 21st century.
